What is the simplest way a person can try a small language model on their own computer right now?
I have read several explanations of how these models work yet I still do not know the easiest practical first step for an ordinary reader to run one locally.

The Illustrated GPT-2 page explained transformer internals with diagrams of attention and tokens but contained no instructions or links for running a language model on a personal computer.
